Caused by a neurotoxin in saliva of a female tick

Begins with weakness in legs

Paralysis begins in the lower legs and moves up the body

Lungs become paralyzed

Can be fatal unless the tick is found and removed in time

Once the tick is removed, the patient recovers

The tick is often on the head, usually at the back, at the hairline
-
The tick can be on the neck, back or other location
